  1. LA is a week away. I’ve got most everything together and I’m pretty much ready to go. Doug and Brian flew out today. Right now I’m trying to stock up on as much Arrested Development as I can for the long flight.

  2. Here’s a good story from my first day at Engine Music Studios here in Chicago. I was given the very, very important job of being the “Plate Nazi”. Engine has a vintage plate reverb unit, which is so large that it can only be kept in the hallway. My duty as “Plate Nazi” was to sit outside in the hallway and “SSHHHH!!” anybody that came by too loudly. It was very fulfilling work, all for the sake of reverb!

  3. Peerless Mastering in Newton MA, yeah I know still in MA, is pretty fun and busy. I get to do alot of the QC (Quality control) on records before they were sent to duplication and I’ve been assisting the Main Mastering Engineer, Jeff Lipton, almost on a daily basis. Yeah, it’s alot of critical listening which is cool.

  7. That’s how interns become assistants, and assistants become firsts, firsts become Level 12 Invincible Omniscient Sabre-Tooth Czars

  8. So far so good here at Sound Lounge Hudson. Got a chance to take charge of the machine room last week. I didn’t delete any master tapes or anything! Mostly, I hang out in the machine room with Justin. The work down here is for television commercials. We work mainly with DBetas and relay footage to the mixers and layback audio from them. I get to sit in on some v.o./mixing sessions too. Oh, and the barista at Starbucks knows me already ;)

    should be a good time!!

oh, and i helped carry/install my second career console. a calrec alpha with bluefin technology. apparently it surpasses the API in price, i modded the pallet skid it was on so we could use the fork lift. it was pretty cool. much lighter than the api though…..

  15. Peerless has invited me to drop in when I can in the fall to do work for them as an “Intern/Assistant Engineer” type of person. This coming up after I transfered twelve 45’s, 2 LP’s, one 1/4 inch tape and seven CD’s to be mastered by Jeff. Wicked fun day of cleaning records and transferring them on our new record player. Check it out:

  16. I’m finishing up my internship tomorrow with “family” lunch and then after work they are taking me candlepin bowling! During the past few months I did a lot of… booking agency type things, from helping put together work visas to press kits to sending out brochures to sending out DVDs/PKs/Letters etc. And then lots and lots of contracts. It was a fun experience.
